Combining years of experience in training adult educators, the National Adult Education Professional Development Consortium (NAEPDC) and ProLiteracy America joined forces in 2006 to launch an exciting professional development initiative for local program managers. With funding from the Verizon Foundation, the two organizations began piloting the first cluster in a national certification and professional development series for local program managers. | |||||||||

►The pilots included approximately 60 local adult education managers in Arizona, Maryland, and New York. Participants were engaged in a year-long professional development experience that focused on topics related to program improvement. The local managers completed online introductory courses; participated in three six-hour workshops and follow-up interactive webcasts; and completed interim activities and learning projects that allowed them to apply the skills and concepts gained through the training activities. During 2007 - 2008, the initial pilot states will complete the remaining courses and activities required for national certification in program improvement. In addition, seven new states will launch the first year of the Leadership Excellence Academies in their states. Those states include Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, New Mexico, Ohio, Tennessee, and Texas. |
